Improvisation workshop

The Clown-Hero's Journey

The Clown-Hero's Journey. An improvisation workshop by Caspar Schjelbred (featured during a performance).

The ideal meeting between clown and improv theatre

How can you combine the vitality of clowning with the storytelling of theatrical improvisation? How do you improvise clearly and concisely, both visually and dramatically? Without falling into either frenzied nonsense or boring predictability?

The Clown-Hero's Journey is the ideal opportunity to find your answers to these crucial questions.

Improvised theatre meets freestyle clowning in this workshop, where the body is the key to all drama and comedy.

Through a series of simple and precise exercises, you will learn the essential tools necessary to develop your skills.

clown-hero | klaʊnˈhɪərəʊ | n.

Comedian who stands out for their courage, their remarkable exploits, and who is worthy of glory for their strength of character, their genius, his dedication. Appears on all stages, with or without a red nose, often heavily made up and grotesquely dressed. Does mainly slapstick comedy and farcical scenes.

An experience like no other

Each day begins with a foundational physical and creative workout to reestablish the body at the centre of your acting and improvisation.

Then comes the clown theatre exercises, all based on repeatable techniques. Things you can improve and master.

Finally, we explore the dramatic situations that make up the backbone of the famous hero's journey.

Solo work always prepares the duo, trio and quartet work.

Although speech is not banned, the verbal side of improvisation will remain secondary. The clown improvisation techniques you'll explore are essentially non-verbal.

Afterwards, you can apply them in any show you want.

Whether you're an actor, clown or improviser, you'll get your money's worth.
